Oh What , Oh What Am I Up To!!!!

This week I've been finishing up some projects.
I'm working on the blue quilt that goes on my great-grandma's sewing machine.

I'm binding a quilt. Will show you the front later!!:):)
I also cut out a queen size quilt. I'm getting ready to piece together. And I've been CLEANING!!!! Remember my Momma is coming. They are almost here. I'm
sooo excited.!!!!! I wanted to tell you a funny thing that happened with my darling husband this week. So, he comes into my art room, sits down to talk to me while I'm sewing , right? He looks over and sees a hole in my fabric stash.
Granted it's not a big hole , but it is a hole none the less. :):) He says, "Hey, Honey you are using up your fabric I'm so proud of you.!!" He kisses me and leaves. OK, all you fabric hounds out there know what I thought at that moment. HE is sooo delusional if he thinks that hole won't be filled up within the week.!!!!!!!  Can I get an AMEN!!!  (lol)   Shhhh!!! We will let him keep thinking he is in dreamland. :):) (and that his wife doesn't have a fabric problem) That's my week. Hope you all are having a super one!!!!!

I'm putting on my Sunday best. MOMMA is coming to town!!!!

I have lived in Florida my whole life. My husband had to transfer to Scottsdale, AZ in order to keep his job. We have lived here almost two years. My family has never been here. BUT, I just got the word that Momma and my little Sister ( and her 3 kids) are coming to see me.!! YEAH!!!  Ohhh...... wait a minute... I just moved into a new house and I'M sooo not ready for company. Needless to say I'm running around like mad trying to get everything ready. My husband thinks its great, the house is all of the sudden magically coming together. So here is the entry hall into my house. What do you think?? Does it look OK??

This sewing machine belonged to my Great-Grandma. As she is the only sewer or quilter in my family besides me, this machine means alot to me. I've made my poor husband drag this thing all over the place for years.:):)  The blue quilt on the machine has yet to be quilted. (working on it now:) I love the quilt ladders that hold my finished quilts. The ocean quilt is a Laurel Burch panel that I bedazzled, and the rack above holds my Jim Shore quilted angels. Anyhow, I'm getting nervous and excited. I can't wait to see them.!! I keep reminding myself they are coming to see me, not my house. But.......Come on ladies you feel me right?!?

Welcome to my HAPPY place!!!!

My family and I just relocated to Arizona. We bought a great house!! As we are settling this and that, I'm running around like crazy trying to set up my art space. Our 11 year old asked Daddy one day, "How come Mommy's art room always gets set up first when we move?" My husband's reply, "Well honey, Mommy HAS to have her HAPPY PLACE." Talk about hitting the nail on the head.!! :) Does my husband know me or what!! My art room is my calming place. So, welcome to a glimpse into my happy little world. It's about 11x16 feet, with a 14 foot closet. It's former life was a formal dining room we closed in.

First up, one side of my closet has a cozy little nook. I turned this into my office.

Above my desk I put up shelves to hold gifts from family and friends, and things my kids made when they were little. As you have seen from this blog. I love color. I like to surround myself with things that inspire me.

This is the other side of the closet. A lot of my paper craft stuff is in here. Paints, glues, papers, scrap booking tools, tissue papers, and batting.

I also keep my ribbons, laces, trims, and buttons all out in the open so I can see them, and be inspired.!! I love to just stand there some times and just play with ribbons. !! :)

Now lets take a walk around the room. I LOVE my Ikea cubby!! And you can see my rubber stamp holder my husband made me.!!

Can you tell I like to be organized?! I don't want to have to guess where something is. I want to know!!! This Ikea is filled with all my quilting books, patterns, sewing supplies, strips, and in the process projects.

a closer look

The brown table is my all purpose table. You can also see my cutting table. The widows open up to the front yard. I get great natural lighting.

The quilt on the right I made in Bonnie Hunter's Crumb quilt class. That little quilt is one of my most favorite quilts.!! If you get a chance to take a class from her DO!!!! She is fabulous!! ( love ya Bonnie)

This is the whole wall shot. You can just see my sewing machine.

I painted wooden letters and made flowers out of yo-yo's, buttons and silk flowers leaves. I cut butterflies out of pre-printed fabric and used spray starch to stick them to the wall.

My Sewing corner. I have two machines, DVD player, and my TV. I have three planning boards, that I made. They are not stuck to the wall so I can move them around. The square quilt over my machine is my 11 year old's first quilt. She is very proud of it. Next step is to help her quilt it.!!

Not long after I set this room up. My little fur babies made themselves at home. Can you see them.?? Hint-- look down.

When I pulled out the extension on my table it made a hole. So, I put a flat dog bed in there and presto!! They made it theirs. Zoey and Daisy don't like to be to far away from Mommy.. :):)

Of course they found the hole and told me that they wanted it.!! So what can ya do!! My happy place wouldn't be complete with out them.

This Ikea holds all of my art books, journals, yarns, ATC binders, and fabric.

I bought this piece at a used furniture store. I saw it and thought ..."All my fabric can go on this". The underside is stuffed full too!! The only problem is fabric is starting to bleed into both of the Ikea's too!! Yeah, Yeah, I know I have enough fabric!! (so says my husband)...... BUT I'm just not so sure!!!! A girl can NEVER have to much fabric, right??!! :)

My brown table also serves as my ironing board.  That is NOT a bag of trash. It is my scrap bag. When I'm working on a quilt project and have little bits and pieces left they go in there. When I need just a little piece I go digging in there. :):)       Up next, lets see what's in my drawers, shall we!!!! (giggle!!!)

Under my skirt, you will find all my carts and bags for lugging art stuff to all the fun places we artists like to go.!! :):)

In my Ikea drawers you will find cut strips, laces , trims, doilies, blocks, scraps, and all that other stuff you have to have.

As a mixed media artist, I have a collection of all those little teeny tiny bits that we tend to collect.

Some of my stuff I like to see. So, I come up with different ways to show them off.

As I said at the beginning, I like to surround myself with stuff that was made or given to me.

So, here are a few close up shots of my little treasures. :):)

Can you see why this is my HAPPY place?? It's not huge. But it's mine. And I LOVE it.
One last photo.

My daughter said, "Mom you need this lamp. It looks like it would go better in your space than mine." Isn't she just the sweetest!!!!! This lamp is perfect for my desk. :)

Well, that is the end of my HAPPY place tour. I hope you liked it. And found some idea's for storage and organizing. If you are an artist, you must make your self an art space. No matter how small, or big. You will be a happier person if you have a creative space. Even if you only have time once or twice a week to create. If you have a need in your heart to make something with your hands. Don't ignore it. Make it important. Trust me I've learned the hard way.!!  Thanks again for your time. Leave me a comment or two. I would love to hear what you thought about my place.!!           BLESSINGS to everyone who stopped by. :):)

I love my new purse!!!

My family went out of town for a couple of days, giving me some much needed down time. I thought what could make this weekend better?? Oh I know... Having a girlfriend over to work on art projects, watch chick flicks, eat junk food, and some good old fashion girl talk.:) My dear friend Karen came to hang out. We had a blast.!!! We both worked on art projects, and just relaxed.  It was wonderful!!!! Karen worked on her computer bag, and I worked on this purse. I finished it!! Yeah!! Can you believe I finished it!! If you knew me, you would know I'm the best at starting things...... finishing on the other hand. Let's just say I'm working on it  :):) Thanks Karen for coming and hanging out with me. Love ya.!!!

One UFO down, 30 more to go!!!

One of the things I want to do this year is finish up projects I have started.  I started this quilt 3 years ago. I love it when I can get things done. Now if I could just learn to stay on topic and finish stuff. But NO, not me. I'm very easily distracted. So many fun things to do. :):)
