The New Hexagon Book

I am having a blast making these blocks from the book.... "The New Hexagon" by Katja Marek

I decided to NOT do my blocks all by hand. So, I'm calling mine Hybrid blocks. I'm piecing by hand, Machine sewing them onto the big hexagon, machine quilting them, and I'm hand quilting the edges with peril cotton threads with big stitches. Then I will machine stitch them all together. LOL!!! "Hybrid"

It's a great time to practice my free-motion quilting.
I have 11 done now...and there are 63 blocks. 52 in the book, and 11 free one the Katja gives out on her website.
And what makes it even more fun to work in this book...I'm NOT doing it alone. I grabbed some friends to join me. We meet once a month. At my house. On our first meeting we of course got a group shot in the "Happy Potty"....Back row Becky, Kate, Paula, then Laura and Me. LOL!!! Kate is so tiny we had her stand on the toilet so she could be seen amongst us tall people...hehe!!
This is a super fun group of Gals!!!
I look forward to them coming :0)

Be sure to check out Katja's website for this quilt. Click on her name and it will take you there. :0)

thanks for stopping by....I am off to my first Quiltcon ... in Savannah, Georgia!!!
I am too excited!!!!

New Baby :o)

His name is Jake...and he is 15 weeks old. He is a Cornish Rex just like his brother Jasper. And they are brothers...they have the same Momma...but different Daddy's.

He is so cute!!!

My Niece went with me to collect him. Everyone was busy...and I needed someone to hold him. I have NOT used a cat carrier with Jasper... we harness and leash him... and I want to be able to do the same with this little guy. Jasper is not afraid of any dog. Even strange dogs at the vet can sniff him and he is okay.
Poor little guy...he does look confused and scared here. What is happening?!!! Who are these people? and Where is my Mommy?!!!
I took a selfie with him when I stopped a quilt shop. Yes... I did!!! LOL!!! Come on!! I am a Quilter for Pete's sake!!! lolol!!!
For the first two days we had to keep Bella away from him ... he could handle the little poodles. They simply ignored him. But Bella wanted to get close and sniff him...and that was NOT happening. Thought the little guy was going to have a heart attack!!!
Jake figured out real fast that humans were SAFE-BASE. lol!!! So you often found him sleeping on Me or my Hubs.
Then on day 4 he started following Jasper around and not hissing at Bella so much. (as long as she didn't get to close) He also started to play tag with Jasper...chasing each other all over the house. But when he was done he would always come find me to sleep. He doesn't trust sleeping without being on Safe-base.

But then day 7 happened...and it was quiet in the house..dogs were upstairs with me...and no cats. I went to see what they were up to and found them like this... sound to sleep. Up to this point Jasper wouldn't let Jake cuddle.... which is probably why Jake kept coming to me to sleep.
Sigh... I'm a HAPPY fur-mom. All is right in the house.
The boys have excepted each other.
And Jake only hisses at Bella if she opens her mouth. She can touch him with her nose and smell him...he's okay with that..but the second he sees teeth... Nope!!! He's done. And can you blame the 3lbs little guy. I mean he can fit in her mouth for goodness sakes!!! LOLOLOL!!!!

Thanks for stopping by to see my new fur-baby.
and for those who will ask these cats are Cornish Rex cats. They are known for being hyper allogenic... which is why I got them and have poodles.

So I decided to that I want to create a Mini Quilt wall in my house.... but I didn't want to make all the quilts myself. So, I am joining in on several mini swaps online. The first one that came along was could choose 12-16" or 4-6" I liked the thought of making and receiving a mini-mini!! So, I took Ms. Hazel above and did my best to figure out how to shrink her into a mini-mini...ha!!!

My first attempt was a failure!!! arrrg!!!!

But I did figure it out and pulled my fabrics and began.

And got so excited about my Pink Hazel...I made 4!!! Ha!!!

Then I quilted tiny hearts all over her!!

....and after binding her in pink...I went looking for something more... and was very HAPPY to find I had pink flowers just the right size.

She looks perfectly PINK!

Ms. Hazel measures 5"x6" and she is on her way to live in her new habitat.

and her sister's? Well, One will stay will me, one went to live with my Bestie here in Jacksonville...and the last sister...I'm not sure where she will end up...we will just wait and see....

Got A New Mini

I have the BEST friends in the world!!! My bestie here in Jacksonville made me a mini quilt for Christmas!!! And I absolutely love it!!! She and I became friends through Art. Then she asked me to teach her how to quilt. So, now she is quilting on her own and I couldn't be more proud of her!!
Becky calls herself the "Wonky Quilter".... LOL!!! I think she is silly. Her quilts look just fine to me!!
Thanks for visiting.
